Speeding driver with suspended license causes crash in Pensacola

Being involved in a serious car accident is a frightening experience. You could sustain serious injuries and major damage to your vehicle, which could both set you back a lot of money. As we discussed last week, if you are involved in a crash it is important to gather all of the facts so you can determine exactly how to proceed afterwards.

Yesterday, a car accident at the intersection of Lillian Highway and 69th Avenue seriously injured three people. Police say that a vehicle driven by a 24-year-old man was speeding through the intersection when it clipped the front end of another car. One car spun out of control and struck a light post. Three people -- one from the speeding vehicle and two from the other -- were transported to a nearby hospital with severe injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol officers said that the 24-year-old was driving with a suspended license and going too fast for conditions at the time of the crash. He has been cited for both violations. Mere citations, however, likely won't do much to change his driving or to undo the damage he inflicted on the other vehicle's occupants. Fortunately, personal injury laws in Florida allow injured car accident victims to seek compensation from a negligent driver.

Unfortunately, car accidents like this one are all too common. When everyone is in a hurry and only thinking about themselves, it can create perfect conditions for a crash. As we continue to see serious accidents like this one and others, hopefully Florida drivers will take the time to slow down and drive carefully. It could go a long way toward keeping our roads safe.
