Your home is your safe haven. It is the place you can go when you want to be safe. You likely expect that you can eat, relax and sleep peacefully in your home without anything happening. For one woman, sleeping in her own bed ended in tragedy.
The 62-year-old Florida woman was asleep in her home when a 24-year-old woman who had tried to break into her ex-boyfriend home crashed into the elderly woman's home in a stolen car. The woman's home was nearby the ex-boyfriend's home.
Police chased the woman on foot, but the chase ended with the woman driving her ex-boyfriend's car into the back bedroom wall of the woman's home. The elderly woman died on the scene of the fatal accident. The driver was taken to the hospital prior to going to the Sarasota County Jail.
The female driver was being held on property theft, burglary, vehicular homicide and manslaughter, obstruction of justice and of property, and two counts of battery. Her bond is $9,000 for four of those charges.
Driving while you are emotional isn't a good idea. In this case, one woman's decision to jump into her ex-boyfriend's car and speed away ended up costing a woman her life. Now, the woman's family members have to learn to live without her.
Losing a loved one in any accident is difficult, especially when the accident is caused by someone else. When someone is at fault for the fatal accident, you might have the right to seek compensation for your loved one's death. You may have claims for loss of companionship, loss of earnings, final expenses and other damages and losses.
