Any company that uses heavy equipment or equipment with moving parts has a duty to make sure that proper safety protocol is established and followed by employees who use the equipment. Failure to establish and enforce safety procedures can lead to serious accidents. For one man in Florida, an accident involving a wood chipper ended up costing him his life. Now his family members have to deal with the fact that they will never see his face again.
The fatal accident happened on a job site at an affordable housing complex. A 42-year-old man, who worked for Tree Techs Inc. fell into an industrial wood chipper as the crew he was working with was cleaning debris in the area.
A 20-year police veteran said he hasn't ever seen such a gruesome scene. One of the man's co-workers is said to have collapsed against a fence in response to the horrific scene. That worker tried to get help for the man who fell into the chipper, but it was too late.
Police are investigating the incident but expect that it will be ruled an accident. The sad fact is that no matter what caused the fatal accident, this man's family has to move on knowing about the horrible death he suffered.
Anyone who has lost a loved one in a fatal accident might opt to pursue claims for compensation to help them cope with the financial losses associated with the death. While these lawsuits won't bring back their loved one, they might help to provide the minimal comfort of knowing they took action to hold a party responsible for the death of their loved one.
