Fatal motorcycle wreck caused by driver turning into prison

It has been said more times than most people can count on all their digits that watching out for motorcycles is a duty of all drivers. It shouldn't take a fatal motorcycle accident to catch someone's attention to make them watch out more for these smaller vehicles when they drive. Sadly, a fatal accident involving a motorcycle might be what makes one driver more cautious while driving.

The fatal motorcycle accident occurred near the Federal Correctional Complex at around 6:40 on the morning of Aug. 12. A 55-year-old woman was trying to turn into the complex entrance from the left-hand turn lane on County Road 470. She didn't notice the Harley-Davidson motorcycle coming toward her in one of the westbound lanes. She executed her turn and drove directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.

The motorcycle slammed into her Nissan. The impact threw the 50-year-old motorcycle rider from his bike. Both drivers were taken to Leesburg Regional Medical Center. While the driver of the Nissan only had to be treated for minor injuries, the driver of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Nothing in the world is important enough to try to make a left hand turn without making sure the oncoming lanes are clear. This accident likely could have been prevented if the woman would have taken extra time to double check the westbound lanes. Now, the man's family is left to cope with him being ripped from them in a senseless accident.

Losing a loved one in a motor vehicle accident isn't easy. Ultimately, the family members of the decedent may decide to pursue civil compensation as a way to hold the at-fault driver accountable. Understanding the procedures to do this in Florida might make the decision easier.
