Miami Broward One Carnival is a time for celebration. It is time to have fun and enjoy immersing yourself in the Caribbean culture. Of course, things aren't always what they seem. For one woman, enjoying the carnival ultimately claimed her life when she became the victim of a freak accident.
The 54-year-old woman was a costumed masquerader who was marching toward the stage at the Miami-Dade County Fair and Expo. While she was dancing along and performing, she dropped her phone under a metal trailer that was hooked to a box truck that was stopped. The truck was one that was providing refreshments to the people who were heading to the main stage.
As she reached to pick up her phone, the truck started moving. The woman was hit by the trailer and was treated on the scene prior to being taken to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. A person on social media said the woman died of cardiac arrest during surgery.
For her 18-year-old son and those who witnessed her death, this famed Florida festival is probably now a devastating memory. Friends of the deceased Mascots International Mas Band masquerader said they have hired an attorney.
This was the first injury of this sort in the 30-year history of the carnival. Sadly, it is also the first death. This woman's loved ones now have to move on through life without her.
Anyone who loses a loved one in a freak accident might decide to seek compensation. Understanding how to do so in Florida is vital and can help to reduce the stress of dealing with the proceedings.
