Not all motor vehicle accidents happen in cars, trucks or SUVs

Vespas, ATVs and golf carts also qualify when it comes to wrecks. People suffer serious injuries and even die in motor vehicle accidents involving these modes of transportation as well. Recently, a ride on a golf cart ended in the death of a woman and the arrest of a man in central Florida.

The 51-year-old Florida businesswoman accepted a ride in the golf cart from the man driving it. Both she and the driver had been drinking that night, and at some point, the woman fell out of the golf cart. In a panic, the man dragged her body into a median and drove away. Reportedly, there were witnesses to his actions. The driver did not even call 911 as he left the scene, but the witnesses did.

When emergency responders reached the woman, her injuries were said to be critical. Just days later, she succumbed to those injuries at the hospital. When the man was found, he was still wearing his considerably bloody clothing. Supposedly, he feared being arrested because he was drinking and driving, and that is why he left the seriously injured woman on the side of the road.

He faces charges in connection with the incident, but has not yet been charged with the woman's death. That does not preclude her surviving family members from filing a wrongful death claim against the driver as any other family may do in fatal motor vehicle accidents. They may seek restitution for the financial losses and other damages resulting from her death if negligence is successfully established through appropriate evidence.
