A young Pace woman was killed early Wednesday morning in Santa Rosa County after the sport utility vehicle in which she was a passenger went off Sandy Landing Road and overturned.
Jasmine Celest Wuesthoff, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene.
She was a passenger in a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Calan Floyd Lewis, 23, of Pace. Lewis was taken to West Florida Hospital, where he was treated and released.
The accident happened shortly after 2 a.m. as the SUV was headed east. Lewis lost control of the Blazer, and it veered into the westbound lane, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The truck started to spin before going onto the north shoulder. It then went off the road, hit several small trees and overturned, the FHP said.
It’s not known why Lewis lost control of the SUV, the FHP said.
Neither Lewis nor Wuesthoff was wearing a seat belt, the FHP said.
