Speed and reckless driving cause deadly motor vehicle accidents

A South Florida resident commented that this was not the first time the fence was replaced due to a crash. However, of the motor vehicle accidents the man saw, he reported that this latest one was the worst. Two people are confirmed dead, and a third is missing and presumed dead. One person managed to escape with his life because people in the area rescued him.

This tragedy began on a recent Monday morning at approximately 4:30 a.m. when one witness saw a burgundy Jaguar race past and never saw any brake lights as the vehicle approached the fence. The vehicle then slammed through that fence and crashed into the water. When the 21-year-old survivor — who was reportedly also the driver — made it to emergency crews, he reportedly advised them of the three other people still in the vehicle; he was then taken to a hospital in the area.

Emergency responders in Broward County recovered the bodies of a 23-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man at around 9 a.m. The last reports indicate that the third victim, a 26-year-old woman, remained missing. The search is complicated by the fact that the lake’s brush is thick, which makes it difficult to see and complicates recovery efforts. Officials continue to investigate the accident to determine its cause and what charges, if any, will be filed against the driver.

The families of the victims retain the right to file wrongful death claims against the driver. They will have to prove through appropriate evidence that the victims’ deaths were caused by his negligence. As in other motor vehicle accidents, once liability is formally established, a Florida civil court could then consider entering a monetary judgment in favor of the families. Any restitution received from a successfully navigated civil claim would help address the financial losses that accompanied this tragedy.
