No contest plea entered in Florida fatal accident case

Some people believe that elderly residents shouldn't be able to drive, while others believe that elderly drivers aren't a threat on the roadways. A recent accident in Bradenton, Florida, ended with three people dying. The elderly driver who caused the accent pleaded no contest to the charges placed against her for the fatal accident.

The woman was leaving church when she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. Her SUV hit a group of people from the church. Four people were injured in the fatal accident and three others were killed.

The husband of one of the victims who was killed says that the 79-year-old woman shouldn't have been driving. He said she should have stopped years ago. He was upset with the judge's ruling in the matter. He says he isn't mad at the elderly woman because this was just an accident.

The woman, who was using a walker and had help from her son in court, had her license suspended for one year, but she is eligible to apply for her license after that period is completed. She will have to take the written test and a driving course if she chooses to reapply. She also had to pay court costs and a $1,000 fine. The woman's attorney told the judge that civil litigation is pending.

Anyone who has lost a loved one in a car accident caused by the carelessness of someone else might have the right to seek compensation for that loss through civil litigation. While any damages awarded won't bring back the loved one, it might help to reduce the financial impact caused by the untimely death.
