Deceased driver's family may seek workers' compensation benefits

Losing a loved one unexpectedly in a work-related accident can be heart wrenching. In addition to the fact that a family member will never come home again, there are financial concerns that often accompany his or her death. This is where workers' compensation benefits can help Florida families.

A Florida family might be looking to the workers' compensation system for benefits after losing a loved one in a crane accident. It was around 1 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon on Interstate 75 near the exit for CR-6 where the deadly accident occurred. As the crane driver maneuvered the large vehicle along the southbound side of the interstate, a tire blew.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, which careened into a ditch. The impact caused severe injuries to the driver to which he succumbed at the scene. A video report indicates that the driver left behind a wife and 1-year-old daughter. A go fund me account was established in order to help the man's family pay for his funeral expenses and help with the future education of his daughter.

One of the hardest realities facing families who lose a loved one to a work-related accident is the fact that they lose the income of the victim as well. A family might pursue workers' compensation benefits to help with the financial losses that accompany such tragedies. In fact, other legal remedies could be available to the family as well in the form of third party civil claims. Seeking the advice and assistance of an attorney to obtain workers' compensation benefits and explore other possible legal avenues may help secure the family's financial future.
