The inexperience of teens could lead to motor vehicle accidents

One of the most exciting times in the lives of Florida teens is when they get their driver's licenses. Even the most diligent teen driver still lacks experience, however. This could cause serious or fatal motor vehicle accidents that could jeopardize or end their futures, along with the futures of anyone else involved.

Inexperience might have played a factor in a recent accident on U.S. Highway 17 on a recent Wednesday night. It was shortly after 7 p.m. when a vehicle occupied by a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy crashed. Preliminary reports from the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle went off the right shoulder, and when the driver attempted to get back onto the roadway, he over corrected. The vehicle then careened into the opposing lane of travel and struck another vehicle. The two teens suffered fatal injuries in the crash, and the driver of the other vehicle suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in the area. The current condition of the surviving driver is not known. Troopers do not believe that impairment played a factor in the crash, but they are still investigating in order to determine what did cause the crash.

While that investigation continues, the families of the deceased teens and the injured driver are forced to deal with the aftermath. The families of the passenger and the other driver retain the right to file civil actions in an attempt to recover damages that are often incurred after serious motor vehicle accidents. If negligence is successfully proved, a monetary judgment could be entered in favor of the deceased victims' families and/or the injured victim.
