Many motor vehicle accidents involve multiple vehicles

Figuring out the order in which events occurred in some crashes could take Florida investigators a while. Sometimes, the vehicle that began the crash is not among the vehicles remaining at the scene. In those motor vehicle accidents, police may have to locate the vehicle and driver who may ultimately be responsible.

This was the case in a recent crash on one of central Florida's expressways. A vehicle veered into the median. A second vehicle was forced through the median and into oncoming traffic. That vehicle crashed into two other vehicles before catching on fire.

Some of the witnesses to the horrific scene attempted to save the driver by pulling the driver from the burning vehicle. Unfortunately, the driver, the other adult passenger and the child all perished at the scene. It turns out that the child was just 2 years old, and the two adults may have been the child's parents.

The 29-year-old woman in the vehicle that fled was arrested a short time after the accident. Police took her to an area hospital to obtain a blood sample or analysis. While there, the woman apparently attempted to hide the samples in her under garments. She faces charges of manslaughter and DUI in connection with the accident, along with tampering with evidence in connection with the incident at the hospital.

In the meantime, the families of the deceased may exercise their rights to file wrongful death claims. If negligence is successfully established through the applicable evidence, then a Florida civil court may consider entering an award of damages. Any restitution surviving family members receive could help with the unavoidable financial losses that accompany fatal motor vehicle accidents.
