Fatal motor vehicle accidents can change holidays forever

There may not be much, if any, snow during the holidays in Florida, but that does not keep people from celebrating and enjoying them anyway. They often look back on prior holidays and smile, even at that one relative who had a little too much "holiday cheer." However, when fatal motor vehicle accidents happen on a holiday, how the family left behind perceive it often changes. It could take some time to smile at that same holiday again.

This could be the case for the families of three people who lost their lives in a wrong-way accident on Interstate 75. It was Thanksgiving night sometime before 10 p.m. when a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old man was traveling the wrong direction in the southbound lanes. That vehicle then slammed into an unsuspecting vehicle heading south.

That southbound vehicle was occupied by a couple engaged to be married. Emergency medical personnel took all three to a hospital in the area. None of them survived the injuries they suffered in the crash. At last report, investigators were attempting to ascertain why the wrong-way driver was heading north in the southbound lanes.

While officials carry on with the investigation, the families of the victims may exercise their rights to file wrongful death claims against the estate of the wrong-way driver in a Florida civil court. Fatal motor vehicle accidents often cause substantial financial losses to those left behind. If the evidence proves that negligence on the part of the other driver led to the deaths of their loved ones, the court may consider awarding damages to surviving family members.
